Dissolution of Great Britain Kurling Association (GBKA)
Dear members and former members of GBKA,
The Great Britain Kurling Association (GBKA) has benefited greatly from the efforts of the various members who have served on the National Executive Committee (NEC). Since 2006, these dedicated volunteers have managed competitions, provided coaching, and offered invaluable advice and training. The commitment and hard work of these individuals have been entirely voluntary, and we all owe them a debt of gratitude for their service.
Committee Tenure and Succession Challenges
I have personally served as a committee member for 12 years, with 10 of those years as Chair of the NEC. Many other committee members have contributed their time and expertise for even longer periods. At this juncture, all officers elected to the GBKA have reached the end of their tenure. Regrettably, we have not been able to identify sufficient volunteers willing to continue the work of the committee.
Unsuccessful AGM and Expiry of Committee Terms
An Annual General Meeting (AGM) was scheduled to coincide with the May 2025 competition. However, due to a lack of competitors, the competition was cancelled, and the AGM did not take place. As a result, no officers were re-elected, and all terms of office for NEC committee members have now expired. In light of these circumstances, I am invoking clause 21.1 of the constitution and holding an Extraordinary General Meeting via this email to formally propose the dissolution of GBKA.
Proposal for Distribution of GBKA Assets
As stipulated in clause 22.3 of the constitution, GBKA assets cannot be distributed to members. Therefore, I propose that the physical assets, which consist of various Kurling equipment, be donated to the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries Unit Physiotherapy Department. This department has recently introduced New Age Kurling as a form of rehabilitation for patients and has expressed interest in any equipment we can provide.
In addition, I propose that any remaining funds in the GBKA account be donated to WheelPower, an organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities through sporting activities. GBKA has enjoyed a positive sporting relationship with WheelPower and has assisted at numerous junior fun sport days.
Invitation for Alternative Proposals and Next Steps
Should any member have alternative suggestions regarding the distribution of GBKA assets, please share them so that we can make appropriate arrangements. If no objections are raised by the end of October 2025, those of us still active within GBKA will proceed with dissolving the organisation and distributing its assets as outlined.
